The Tengwar

Haven’t you always wanted to learn the Tengwar of Fëanor, that ingenious and beautiful writing system devised by Fëanor, most gifted of craftsmen? This Anki deck can help you. It covers not only all of the basic characters but many of the variants and diacritics that Tolkien invented.

It covers three of the most useful “modes”, that is, standards for employing tengwar to represent languages:

  1. the Quenya or Classical Mode, used for representing Quenya,
  2. the Mode of Beleriand, used for Sindarin and seen in The Lord of the Rings upon the door of Moria,
  3. and the General Mode, used for Sindarin as well as natural languages such as English or Latin.

To make this I found Amanye Tenceli a highly useful resource, as well as the Wikipedia user Tasnu Arakun.

It’s a very beautiful script.
The tengwa lambë with the rempë nuquerna diacritics is very beautiful.
The tengwa númen with a hooked flourish on it makes an "ns" sound.
Even the flourishes are meaningful.
